Wonderful rare Burgues porcelain figurine of a large grouping Cactus in Bloom. Made by Burgues USA. It comes in a protective acrylic case which measures 13" x 16" x 14" tall. The piece has been anchored to the base. Dr. Burgues’ studio at 183 Spruce Street in Lakewood was not open to the public but by 1973 he had about 30 employees in addition to himself and his wife. An ardent conservationist, his designs often depicted endangered animals, birds and plants. He also appears to have been the first USA porcelain studio to produce only limited editions. He was trained as a dentist in Austria but immigrated to the US in 1940. His works were highly desired. His pieces received many awards and accolades and were even given as Presidential gifts of state during the 80s. Dr. Burgues died in 2002 at the age of 95. His work as his advertisement said was truly "Poetry in Porcelain".
