36. Two Vintage GAR Swords that are quite ornate. Please let the picture be your guide come with a sheath they are marked on the sword handle. One is marked G. A. R. and E.A. Armstrong Detroit, Mich. They are presentation Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Civil War Veterans sword. These swords are a fancy version of the Civil War Period 1860 Staff & Field Officer sword used by the GAR. The sword has ornate gilt bronze, or copper colored, fittings and was retailed by George F. Foster, Son & Co. in Chicago, IL. The blade has the US eagle on one side and "G.A.R." on the other as the central devices of the etching. It has a factory etched presentation on the obverse scabbard centered between the pierced sling mounts.
