Antique Meriden Britannia Company 1858 silver plated Pitcher. This has beautiful designs and the crest is monogrammed with the letter H. There is a floral pattern with three tulips on the reverse side. It is marked Meriden Brita Co Double Wall Pitcher 1858. The inception of silver plate wear industry dates back to 1847 with Rogers Brothers who had a shop in Hartford Connecticut. In 1852 they merged with the Britannia Company that was organized by Horace and Dennis Wilcox. They combined the genius and skill of the Rogers with the initiative and business ability of the Meridia concern. They crafted beautiful German silverware "Supplying all the advantages of silver in durability and beauty at one fifth the cost". This business continued until 1898 when they became part of the International Silver Company.
